I’m a home decor expert and people always make this common mistake when painting their walls

EVERYONE who has to paint their walls gets frustrated if the color starts to peel off again when they remove the painter’s tape along the edges.

It’s a common problem, but there’s a simple tip to prevent it from happening.

Painter’s tape is specifically used when you want to cover bases you do not want to paint over. It also keeps lines looking super crisp and clean.

That being said, many people will often wait until their wall has completely dried down before removing the tape.

But that’s actually the wrong way of doing it.

A home decor expert from Powell Decor recently revealed in a video that you’re supposed to peel off the painter’s tape while the wall is still WET.

If you wait until the paint has dried down, you could peel the color off with the tape, ruining your entire work.

“You pull the tape on the final coat. The wall could be painted four times before if need be,” the expert said.

For an even sharper appearance, the expert suggested sealing the painter’s tape with white paint BEFORE you even do your walls with the color you want.

According to Caroline Picard, a former editor for Good Housekeeping, the white paint will work as a seal.

“When you brush the original shade over the edge of the tape, it seals it, and any paint that bleeds under will match what you’ve already painted,” she said.

However, both Picard and the home decor expert agreed that you should let the white paint completely dry over the tape before painting the wall with your chosen color.

In other words, if your baseboard is white and your walls are being painted blue, let the white dry over the painter’s tape before going in with the blue.

Many contractors agreed with Powell Decor’s painting technique, saying: “I’ve done every job this way ever since and people are stunned at that laser line finish.”
