IMC invests in women-owned companies through the acquisition of dough

Vanessa Bruce

The International Market Centers (IMC) announced the acquisition of Dough, an e-commerce platform focused on empowering women-owned businesses. This strategic investment will be the first in a series of initiatives designed to emphasize and support value-based trading and bring new voices and perspectives to the IMC community of brands. Vanessa Bruce, co-founder and CEO, joins IMC in the newly created role of VP of Social Impact reporting to Eric Dean, President of Juniper by IMC.

“Value-based suppliers are increasingly sought after in the gift, home and clothing industries,” says Bob Maricich. “And IMC is committed to developing trade and marketing strategies to connect these suppliers to our extensive community of buyers through IMC’s physical and digital platforms. Vanessa brings thought leadership and expertise in creating trade as a force for good.”

In his new role, Bruce will focus on bringing Dough’s salespeople to the B2B business arena through both, IMC’s newly launched B2B e-commerce marketplace and IMC’s physical markets in Atlanta, High Point and Las Vegas.

Since its launch in 2018, Dough has identified, reviewed and supported more than a thousand women-owned companies, 50% of which are led by women of color. It is noteworthy that 70% of the products are made in the USA, 75% are not on Amazon, 60% are handmade and 65% are environmentally friendly. Key categories of goods offered at Dough – health and well-being, clothing, accessories, skin care, home furnishings and food and beverage – have a broad and growing appeal in the industries that IMC serves. Notable among Dough’s sellers are: Becalia Botanicals (skin care), Modern Theory (candles), Ora Ana (accessories), Salut (cocktail mixer) and Zuahaza (home decor).

“Dough proved that there is an expansive market for women’s products and joining IMC will connect the incredible brand collection gathered at Dough with IMC’s extensive buyer network. It’s gratifying to enable buyers around the world to store shelves with products from women-owned companies, says Bruce. “Companies will have an unparalleled opportunity to grow their operations and profitability while having a positive impact. I can not wait to see Dough’s brands and missions flourish with IMC. ”

Before founding Dough, Bruce founded an award-winning brand agency and worked on product and design for several investor-supported technology startups. She is an award-winning, patent holder, founder and operator. She is passionate about trade as a force for good, access to entrepreneurship and building a more inclusive, compassionate and fair community.
