Lillian Ruth Colvard (nee Jennings), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away after an 18-month battle with cancer on Friday, June 3, 2022. Lillian was born to Sherman and Lela Mae Jennings (nee McGlamery) on Sept. 27, 1939 in Reddies River. She was a 1957 graduate of West Wilkes High School and a longtime employee of Wilkes Home-care and Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles Reginald “Reggie” Colvard; her sister, Ruby Arlene Reeves (nee Jennings) of Cricket and brother, James Arlie Jennings of Baltimore, Md.
She is survived by her son, Chuck Colvard; daughter-in-law, Susan McCann; granddaughters, Maddie and AJ, of Mount Laurel, NJ; her daughter, Diana Bauguess, and son-in-law, Ricky Bauguess, of State Road; sister-in-law, Linda Sullivan of Winston-Salem and Rickey and Betty Reeves of Millers Creek, who were essentially family.
Lillian loved making things grow. Over the years she turned a small patch of forest into a shady, beautiful ornamental garden. She cultivated massive rhododendron and azaleas to ring her yard. The surrounding woods are dotted with daffodils, hosta, lenten roses and columbine that she lovingly planted and tended, along with big, mossy rocks that her husband hauled in for her. She was an avid bird-watcher and drew flocks of birds to her home with her many feeders and bird baths. Lillian had impeccable taste, in both her personal style and her home decor. She was a stickler for good pronunciation and grammar and made sure that her children were, too. She loved reading Sharyn McCrumb novels, driving her black Caddy at unsafe speeds, watching veterinarian shows on cable and snuggling up to her massive house cats.
