New home decor store will open in Albemarle in the coming days – The Stanly News & Press

Albemarle is about to get a new shopping alternative when the home decor store pOpshelf opens in the coming days.

pOpshelf, an offshoot of Dollar General, is tentatively scheduled to open Friday at 739 NC Highway 24-27 at the old Dollar General site, pending approval by a fire inspector. It was originally scheduled to open last month, but had some delays.

The store will offer a range of items (mostly under $ 5) including home furnishings, beauty products, party accessories, specialty foods and electronics.

“I think Albemarle will be very excited because it gives something we do not have,” says store manager Erica Hill. “We have home furnishings in Albemarle, but we do not have them to the extent that pOpshelf has and we definitely do not have the price we will be able to offer the community.”

pOpshelf decided to open a location in Albemarle following the results of a survey conducted on the company’s Instagram account, which showed that the city would be a popular choice.

“Dollar General looked at the population and the area and thought it would fit well” for a store, Hill said.

The site, which is 8,250 square feet, will have 15 employees, each of whom has been training for about a month in Matthews in preparation.

“My team is ecstatic about being on site,” Hill said. “They are pretty excited about everything and have been working really hard this week.”

Dollar General debuted pOpshelf in the fall of 2020 and opened its first two stores near Nashville in late October 2020. There are now more than 50 locations in the southeastern part of the country, including 12 in North Carolina.

The store will be open 9.00-21.00 daily.
