Prefabricated building materials

Pre-fabricated building materials are used for buildings that are manufactured off-site and later shipped for final disposal. Some commonly used prefabricated building materials are aluminum, steel, wood, fiberglass and concrete.

Prefabricated metal buildings use galvanized steel and galvanium as the main building materials. Galvalume is a form of steel coated with aluminum zinc. This is to protect the building from corrosion, rust and fire. It also provides a strong and protective cover to the prefabricated building. Almost all components of a metal building such as beams, frames, columns, walls and roofs are made of steel. Most prefabricated military buildings use steel or aluminum frames. Synthetic materials are used for walls and ceilings. To provide better security, a combination of both metal and fabric materials is used. Plastic flooring materials can be assembled quickly and are very durable.

Prefabricated building materials used for small pre-fabricated buildings are steel, wood, fiberglass, plastic or aluminum materials. This material is cheaper than ordinary brick and concrete buildings. Materials such as steel, fiberglass, wood and aluminum are used as prefabricated building materials for sports buildings. These materials provide flexibility and are preferred for building structures and accessories such as stands and seats for stadiums and gyms.

Pre-fabricated materials such as straw bale, ferro cement, calcium silicate products, composites and other cheap wood based materials are currently being used to build low cost houses. Calcium silicate bricks are strong and durable. Ferro cement consists of a cement matrix reinforced by closely spaced iron bars or wire mesh. In this type of construction, the technique used is simple and fast.

One can build durable, water and fire resistant and affordable pre-fabricated buildings using prefabricated materials. Most manufactured building materials are eco-friendly and affordable.
