The Seneca County Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual dinner meeting on January 20, where Chamber Executive Director Jeff Shipley said the county’s economy is improving despite setbacks from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shipley went on to say there has been an increase in ribbon-cuttings for new businesses as well as more visitors to the county, according to the Finger Lakes Times. In addition, the Chamber’s health insurance program offerings are showing increased enrollment.
Lance Young, general manager of the del Lago Resort & Casino, was announced as the new president of the Chamber’s Board of Directors.
Blush by CV Designs, a small business offering women’s clothing, home decor, jewelry, and gifts, was announced as Seneca County’s Business of the Year.
The Seneca County House of Concern, which helps people in need with food, clothing, and household goods, was announced as Nonprofit of the Year.
Lastly, the Chamber’s Visionary Leadership Award went to Bill Yale, director of the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus. Governor Kathy Hochul’s state budget proposal for 2022-23 includes $ 4 million to help the cemetery as it transitions to a state veterans cemetery.
