Firefighters in Chenango County battled wind chill well below zero as well as fire against a fire in early January 21 on Road 12 in northern Norwich.
Rescue workers say a home in front of the old Carpet Master store on Route 12 in North Norwich did not appear to have been involved when a fire broke out behind the house at the former floor outlet.
Fire brigades from four departments were called to the scene at 03.06. The first units arrived and found the building completely involved in flames.
At the time, Chenango County was under a Wind Chill Advisory. The early morning temperature in Norwich was 4 but a north wind of 9 miles per hour made it feel like ten degrees below zero.
Southbound traffic on Route 12 was diverted to Route 32.
The rescue service says that they expect the fire brigade to be on site for most of the morning. There are no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire will be investigated.
Meanwhile, minutes after the call to North Norwich, firefighters were called to another fire.
Firefighters from Sherburne and New Berlin responded to a report of a chimney fire on North Mulligan Road in Sherburne shortly after 3:30 a.m. and found that the fire had extended into the walls.
There are no reports of injuries.
