Why Jill Zarin May Return But Bethenny Frankel Likely Won’t

The Real Housewives of New York City alums Jill Zarin and Bethenny Frankel evoke nostalgia in fans. Will one of them appear in the new spinoff?

On The Real Housewives of New York City, Jill Zarin and Bethenny Frankel have long histories, but Jill seems more likely to return to the franchise for the upcoming RHONY: Legacy (working title) series. After mulling over a lackluster season 13, Bravo executives announced this week that they’d come up with a solution for the iconic franchise. Rather than blend new castmates into RHONY, they decided to make some big changes. With a nod to the future, they also rebooted RHONY with a brand new cast. With an eye toward nostalgia and the success of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Tripthey are creating a separate series with original RHONY cast members.

There are currently no specifics as to who will join, but Ramona Singer might not be in the running. Ramona has rubbed people the wrong way for many years, thanks to a paper trail of offensive behavior. From referring to her staff as “the help,” partying on Tom D’Agostino’s Floridian yacht at the pandemic’s peak, and getting a reunion canceled for allegedly racist behavior behind the scenes, it’s not looking good for her. A season full of blunders (and her monopolization of every room that she enters) makes it likely that she’s out. While Luann de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan could return, Bravo will need more talent to round out their rosters. Dorinda Medley is a strong contender. However, what most fans really want is the return of Jill and Bethenny. One of the last times the couple were seen together on the show was at Bobby Zarin’s funeral, for an emotional reunion.

When asked about the RHONY reboot and its sibling legacy show with original cast members, Andy Cohen shared that he thought he’d likely receive a call from Jill. When it came to Bethenny, he was not so sure. She now lives in Connecticut, although she frequents the Hamptons. She is also engaged to Paul Bernon and very involved in philanthropic work (she helps refugees and natural disaster victims). Bethenny also stays busy criticizing Kanye West. Andy did tell Variety, “But of course, you know, I never turn down a conversation with Bethenny about coming back.” Her wit, big heart, business savvy, and tendency to sometimes say more than she should keep fans wanting more.

Meanwhile, Jill is in a new stage of her life. After the loss of Bobby, she had a bit of a rebirth. She’s been busy developing her home decor collection from Boca Raton, Florida, and is happily engaged to consultant Gary Brody. There seems to be room in Jill’s life to rekindle things with the RHONY. Jill teased fans of the show last year with a provocative post to Instagram, wearing a Real Housewives shirt. She captioned the post, “See you in 2022 NYC“(see her post above). Many fans thought this hinted at RHONY alum Jill’s impending return.

Jill and Bethenny have a long history, and the possibility of reuniting could bring both women back to the RHONY. If Bethenny chooses to stay away from a The Real Housewives of New York City legacy series, fans still will see plenty of her on social media. However, a return from Jill would be epic, with or without Bethenny.
